Italian Navy - FREMM

The FREMM (European multipurpose frigate) (French Frégate européenne multi-mission or Italian Fregata europea multi-missione) is a class of frigate designed by DCNS/Armaris and Fincantieri for the navies of France and Italy.

I was the Orizzonte Sistemi Navali consultant for the improvement of coating and anti-corrosion, steels and alloys, issues on FREMM ships.

Orizzonte Sistemi Navali (OSN) is the sole Italian Prime Contractor and Whole Warship Design Authority supplying turn-key Naval Surface Vessels with high technological content.

Now I’m the sole advisor and courses lecturer at Fincantieri S.p.a for the same problems identified above, especially for war ships.

Fincantieri is a leader in the construction of cruise ships, large ferries, frigates, corvettes, patrol vessels and submarines.

Materials issues range in Navy vessels is wide and interesting, from coating and their preparation to stainless steels and other alloys.

The Italian Navy (Italian: Marina Militare; MM) is the maritime defence force of the Italian Republic. It is one of the four branches of Italian Armed Forces and was formed in 1946 from what remained of the Regia Marina (Royal Navy) after World War II.

As of August 2014, the Italian Navy had a strength of 30,923 active personnel with approximately 63 combat vessels in commission (184, including minor auxiliary vessels) and around 70 aircraft. The total displacement of the navy was around 295,000 tonnes in 2002.
